Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow

Having very thick hair is fun but it can also be quite a drag. Since I was a teenager, I thought it would be fun to shave my head - my mom wanted no part of it! :) And everyone one said - "Please don't do that to your beautiful hair!" So I decided it was best to take into consideration all of the comments and put it off until I had the guts or a good reason to do it.

A couple of months ago I found out that a very dear family member has breast cancer and they are starting her out with chemo to reduce the golf ball size tumor. Through her treatment she has already started losing her hair. She has not gotten to the point of shaving it - so I thought - why not do mine anyways to show her my support! I asked my hubby if it would be ok to shave mine and donate the 24+ inches of thick hair to Locks of Love. He said he would love to do the honors.

Perks of having no hair
  • use less shampoo
  • got to see that I have a pretty head under all this hair - although very white! :)
  • it's just hair - it will grow back
  • get to try out fun wigs
  • less hair in the drains
Cast your vote in the comments below - KEEP the Mohawk or SHAVE the Mohawk?
P.S. if you know the identity of my family member - please DO NOT share it on facebook or on this blog. We would like to keep it private. Thanks!

  4. You go girl. Man that's a stupid old saying. It even sounds dumb to type. I think it's great what you're doing for your friend. I have been compiling a list of reasons why everyone should shave their head. I think we could pay off the 1.3 trillion dollar deficit if we all shaved our heads.

  5. I think it is cool! what you have done. I chopped off 12+ inches after Josh was born and then 3 yrs later another 14+ inches after Shelby was born and donated to Locks of Love in honer of my husbands mother who passed away from cancer. very awesome and even more cool that Kyle would do the honors. A pain shared is a pain spared. Personally I think you should shave it off---you could match Kyle. Hugs girl.

  6. Thanks for sharing. I've been meaning to do locks of love one of these days, but then when I went for 'a trim', that got put back a few inches. I'll keep ya posted if I ever take the plunge.
